There are a lot of laws at home that they do not have here.

We can ride in the back of trucks...

And have bonfires at the beaches.

We can even light fireworks!

People do not get in trouble for littering,

and almost everyone burns their trash,
the way our grandfathers could
when our parents were kids.

Even though there is more litter here, there is not much trash. At home we make about three big barrels of trash in a week, but here we create one smaller one.

Alot of things are recycled, like paper and boxes. Our groceries are always put in used boxes. Even old plastic bags get torn up into strips and used as twine.

We had to get visas here, just like people visiting the U.S. must.
A visa is a document that allows people who are not citiznes of a country to visit, or go to school, or work there.
All governments should know who the noncitizens are in their country, to keep it safe.

Joshua was allowed to sign his own visa.

In Aceh there is also Sharia law. Muslims must follow it and non-Muslims should respect it. There are rules like not drinking alcohol or eating pork, and going to prayer, especially noon prayer on Fridays. Muslim men are not supposed to wear shorts. Women have to wear shirts that cover their elbows and long skirts or pants. They also have to cover their hair, like our friend does.
