In the states if you have a pet it is likely a dog or cat. Here cats and dogs are usually wild. Most people are Islamic, and dogs are considered unclean.
We tried to keep cats, but they usually were killed by musang that live on our roof.
So we have turtles as pets. They are easy to catch around here.
Frogs are too, especially after a heavy rain.
Our mother won't let us keep them in the house though.
We play with them and then let them go.
Some people keep monkeys.
My mother thinks they are cute, but won't allow them either.
We are kind of nervous of them anyway.
They will bite!
Some of the bugs here are pretty interesting.
We can't keep them as pets though.
We sort of have pet tokes, but we don't exactly play with them.
They live around the house and call out to us.
We have one in the kitchen than has grown alot since we moved in.
At home the only place we see cattle or cows is in farm fields.
Here they wander around everywhere, even the beach!
If you are careful you can pet them.
The same is true of goats.
The satay we eat in the evening was probably wandering around just like this goat, earlier in the day.
Maybe it is better to keep animals outside.
This scorpion should be!
(He didn't bite)
So we don't try to keep pets anymore, except the fish we catch
when we go snorkling. It's really fun.
So far we have 2 spider conches and a sea urchin ...
a grooper ...
A sturgeon ... we didn't know they had razor sharp hidden fins until
a friend was cut by one. It made his thumb swell and was very painful!
You have to be careful catching sea creatures!
Our favorite is the puffer. He puffs up everytime we put a new
fish in the tank.
Some animals are fun to look at for a while, but then best returned to the sea, like this crab...
and definitely this sea turtle! |
This octopus did not like being examined at all...
He kept trying to get out so we did not keep him long. |
